About IIT Bombay
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) is one of the higher Institutes of Technology in the country set up with the objectives of making available facilities for higher education, research, training in various fields of Science & Technology also. IIT Bombay was established in 1958. The Institute is located at Powai in a campus extending over 200 hectares amidst picturesque surroundings with Vihar and Powai lakes on either side.
At present, Under-graduate (B.Tech.), Post-graduate (M.Tech.) and Doctoral (PhD) programmes are offered by the Departments Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science also. Interdisciplinary groups in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research and Systems and Control Engineering offer M.Tech and PhD Programmes also. A PhD Programme in Climate Studies offered by the corresponding group.
ADMISSIONS
Some of the departments and interdisciplinary groups offer direct admission to a limited number of candidates solely based on higher GATE marks. Candidates, who are offered direct admission, have to confirm the admission by paying the fees on the dates mentioned under Important Dates as per schedule of this brochure. However, such candidates have an option of not accepting the direct admission offer in given specialization, but to appear for written test/interview in a discipline of his/her higher preferences. Seats remaining vacant after Direct Admissions may be filled through written test and/or interview/ spot admissions.

Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer(OBCNCL)/Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) and The person with Benchmark Disability (PwD) Categories.
Reserved seats for Other Backward Class NonCreamy Layer(OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Person with Disability (PwD) categories as per Government of India rules also. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates offer direct admission solely based on their GATE Score, IIT Bombay Cutoff and their preferences also.
Admission for IIT B.Tech. degree holders without IIT Bombay Cutoff
Candidates having a B.Tech Degree from IITs and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (on 10 scales) and above are exempted from the requirement of GATE qualification. They may be admitted to M.Tech. Programme under TA/RA positions through written test and/or interview also.
